Mirna and her brown bear

Not long after I came back from Makassar, when I took medical leave, I received a package from Poohbear. I was very surprised!

He told me he would send me a package. I thought it would be his work documents, but it wasn’t!

He sent me a brown bear (beany baby) with the smell of his perfume, a card with his hand writing, and two small bottles of perfume.
Aww…..It was so sweet…..

New Job and What Will Happen to Surgical Dept.

After the meeting in Singapore (Oct 17) with my future employer, I received their offer letter while I was in Makassar (Oct 24).
I was ready to submit my resignation letter.
When I did that (Oct 29), my boss was in Sydney. He was so surprised to
hear that. I received his text message on the next day at 5 AM my time,
and at work I received CEO’s text message.

The new job will have bigger responsibility, with bigger salary of course!
I’ll be heading Indonesia representative office.

With my decision to give only 1 month notification (the company
requires 2 month notification), there are advantages and disadvantages
which I had to take as the risks.

  DISADVANTAGES:
1. No salary for November. That means I must watch out for my expenses for December .
2. I may not get my sales commission. Most of our orders are delivered this month.
From sales view, I and the team got the POs and achieved 75% target of
3rd quarter. But it doesn’t work like that. The company count the sales
after we deliver the equipments.
3. Missed the opportunity to get
promoted as Manager of Surgical Division, with lots of expansion plans.
I wonder if they afford to pay me triple

ADVANTAGES:
1. No nagging boss. Although I don’t know my new boss’ character, I’ll assume he’ll be OK.
2. The soon I join, the soon I get my finance stabilize. I get to pay up my bills.
3. Don’t get involve in company moving into new place. Versacon will
move to new office starting on January 2008 and they have started
moving some stuffs last week.
4. More free time for me for the next 2-3 months as I’ll be working from home.

CEO and KL’s HR Asst.Manager were here last week. So they and boss saw me, interviewing me. CEO expresses his concerns about my decision, he said it’s a good position, but he asked me to check the new employer’s support system and he wished I could have get the job in bigger and famous medical company. My boss warned me about the products from my new employer, they may broken easily.

Oh man! It was so typical of them, saying discouraging things.

I see this as a good opportunity to improve myself. I can’t wait any longer to reach the same position in current company. And I can’t wait either for job vacancy at those big companies where the fact is I have never seen they open a vacancy in Indonesia, except if I decide to move abroad.

But since I quit, it has decided last Thursday that the division was
split, restructurized. Too bad. I didn’t imagine it will be like this, but they just have to put up with it. They should know, sooner or later, I’ll move on.

I Love Last Weekend

Here’s what I did last week:

Friday:

In the morning, I went to RS Royal Taruma for my medical check up. It was required by Maestros (my future employer). I took chest X-Ray, weighing, lab test  for urine and blood sample, then interview with a physician.

When in the toilet to get my urine sample, I was daydreaming for awhile so when I peed, I forgot to get the sample. So I had to drink water so I can pee again. Such a silly thing!

I received a phone call from Medistra, so I went there to meet purchasing staff and O.R. staff. "Sigh"….that day was supposed to be my leave.

After work done, I went to Reggia Spa to get facial treatment. Still have acne problem.

Then, I went to see dr. Ayu to get acupuncture treatment. It’s been awhile since my last treatment.

Saturday:

Early in the morning, went to Prodia Lab. Got my blood checked for blood sugar level and uric acid level.

Went home and got ready to attend a wedding ceremony, it was my neighbour’s daughter wedding. Man, traffic jam was terrible. From my home to the venue, it took 1 hour. Usually only 20-30 minutes.

After I get home, I washed clothes and ironed two weeks laundry.

Sunday:

Worked out at Celebrity Fitness in the morning.

Had a hair treatment for my hair loss problem. I don’t know what caused it. Is it because wrong diet? Stress?

I’ve got to take care and pamper myself……Be relax and enjoy life.

Left Home For 1 week

Another long trip for me.
I would be visiting to cities: Surabaya and Makassar.

The first city is Surabaya, Oct 22 to 24 where I’d help Susan for her GreenLight training at the hospital which bought GL laser.
Peter Robertson, AMS trainer from Australia, joined us. He was the one who gave the training to nurses and the surgeons.

On Oct 22 morning, we flew to Surabaya. I and Susan were in different flights. She accompanied Peter, flew on Garuda. I and Hansen flew on Batavia Airlines. Bad thing happened! The radio transmission was broken, they had to delay the flight. Can you imagine, our plan was ruined. The money for the trip was with me, while Susan must arrange everything there with only Irwan (our local rep.) supporting her. Hansen, our engineer, must be there to record the training and attend the training too.
I requested Batavia to find other flights or provided us a replacement  plane. This was ridiculous. Finally, on 10.10 AM, we flew to Surabaya. Two hours behind original schedule.

On that day, we conducted training for nurses and presented laser safety and case movies to the surgeons. I acted as a translator to the nurses. Cool huh?
We had dinner with Peter in Bumbu Desa restaurant, served West Java cuisine.

On Oct 23, we had two live cases. We must wear goggle to protect our eyes.
It was an interesting experience. The O.R. was a bit hot due to the machine. On last March, I attended the the same training and live case in Singapore, and now it’s Indonesia’s turn! I’m proud of Susan.
Dinner was in Ria Galleria, Indonesian traditional food.

We rode the same taxi like yesterday.

After dinner, we took 1 hour rest and went to Peter’s place to study more about GreenLight.
It was quite embarrassing because I fell asleep. But Peter understood my condition.

I left to Jakarta the next day because I’ll go to Makassar with Arie, Olivia, and Tony for Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Neurosurgeons.
Susan and Hansen stayed, they have one more case and a press conference.

===============================================================

I stayed at the airport, waiting for the three of them. I was lucky because my flights from Surabaya and to Makassar were using Garuda Airlines. Woo hoo…..

We brought so many things for the exhibition. My luggage weighed 20 kg, and we had 67 kg overweight. Total overweight charge was around 1.4 million! We went to customer service and received around 50% reduction. Thank you Ma’m.

We were on the same plane with several neurosurgeons. When we arrived, the travel agent picked us up, but due to the baggages we brought, they changed the vehicle, from minibus, to a bus! There were only four of us, and two neurosurgeons with us. Some part of the road was being fixed.

We had dinner at Konro restaurant. After that, we checked out the venue. It was a small area. Our booth faced our microscope’s competitor. While at the far right, we have two aspirators’ competitors.
Tony let us store the stuffs in his room. I can’t imagine if he wasn’t here, then we have to carry the stuffs back and forth to our hotel across the venue. They are heavy things.

On the third day, I felt my vertigo recurrent after 2 years. I took a 3 hours break to sleep. After that, Tony treated us dinner at Black Canyon Coffee, at the mall next to venue.

The last day, Oct 27, was quiet. Only half day. Tony has flown back early morning. We had reflexology treatment, I had a snack, then we went to the beach. Spent our last night visiting interesting places and bought souvenirs.

My dirty laundry awaited me.

Touching Story with A Taxi Driver

I was in Surabaya to accompany Dr. HF for tumor surgery using our ultrasonic aspirator.

To go to airport, I used taxi. It was still morning. On my way to airport, the taxi driver started a conversation with me.
He asked me the purpose in Surabaya, etc. He was a nice person, so I didn’t mind entertain his conversation.
I told him about my work, my family (parents and sister). He was empathy to hear my story. He said I’m blessed.

Then he told me his story.
He regret for what he did in the past. He was a naughty boy, disobeyed parents, was a rebel. He went to the best school, didn’t study good. He dropped out. While his siblings are college graduates. He felt embarrassed whenever the family gathers.
He’s living difficult life now with his own family. His kids start going to school and all.

At the end, he prayed for me and wish me all the best. It was a touching moment.
